That was a good year I also remember those Zippers returning for their overhead break. Tight formation seeing their smoke from miles away

The sound that kept me awake at night when I was a young boy living in Boekel (not far from Volkel)! The circuit of the F-104's was so wide that during nightflying, the landing light would shine through the window of my bedroom, even at several km's from the base. That sight and the howling sound were probably what made me start spotting.
