REQ : Possible to see the Afghan AF C-27s?
Dear all,
Hope somebody is able to share information with us where we are looking for.
In a few weeks time we will visit ETAR and I found out that Spottingguide.net ( https://www.spotterguide.net/planespott ... -rms-etar/ ) is reporting that the C-27 of the Afghan AF are possible to see. Checked some other sources and some report 3 out of the 4 can be seen and others that nothing can be seen from outside the base.
Does anybody has reliable, updated information on the possibility to see those planes?
The information is highly appreciated.
Thanks

I found out four Afghan C-27's are stored in the Southern shelter area.
Can they be seen from one of the high vantage points like the Bismarck Turm, Burg Nanstein or Am Herrengärtchen?
(I've never been before at one of these three).
thanks in advance,
wkr,
Remco
Viewing the base and reading of serials can be done best from Am Herrengärtchen/Auf Der Pick, in the "Am Melkerei" part of Landstuhl. Although not 100% of the aircraft can be seen, you will get most of them from this official viewing area/vantage point.

One of these four has been moved to another part of the airbase, probably to be scrapped.

84020 was the one towed away to the other side of the runway. It was noted on one of the ramps a while ago. If it’s still there, or gone I don’t know

Three are still in storage an the 4th one was still on the based C-130 ramp a few weeks ago.

Isn’t the Bismarck Turm a better spot then Melkerei for the C-27’s?Flyboy wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 10:48 Message some time ago:

But only for tails.

Re: REQ : Possible to see the Afghan AF C-27s?
Bismarckturm was not too good for these (must be 3 years ago that I saw Just three tails from there, trees keep on growing). Of course the one taken away might very well be visible only from the tower.
Road is 'anlieger frei' which could get you a (wait for it) 10 eur fine. You need to drive it for about 500 meters. Of course it is still illegal!

You don’t need to, and shouldn’t drive in there. Walking is much healthier…

Re: REQ : Possible to see the Afghan AF C-27s?
It's parked in front of the twin hangars just SW of the C-130 ramp, nose visible from the fence at the rwy 26 forest spotting point (probably better from the eastern tip of the base - didn't check).
The three between the shelters are hardly visible anymore from the outside due to the trees and their foliage, especially now in Summer of course. If you don't know where they are it's even possibe to miss the spot, I suppose. But, at least two of these can be seen 'well' enough for most spotters to count them.

3 on taxiway in shelter area can be “seen” trough many trees and bushes, tails and partly the aircraft. Not able to see serials. One tail partly to be seen from the Bismarck Tower.
The one at the C-130 ramp partly visible from east side of the runway.
Seen on 20-08-21
