3e Hercules KLu voor het eerst op Nederlandse bodem

De eerste van de twee extra C-130 Hercules-transportvliegtuigen voor de Koninklijke Luchtmacht is voor het eerst geland op Nederlandse bodem. Het toestel arriveerde dinsdag (1 december) op vliegbasis Eindhoven, de nieuwe thuisbasis van de Hercules. Beide C-130's hebben bij het Britse Marshall Aerospace een omvangrijke modernisering ondergaan.

De vlucht naar Eindhoven maakt deel uit van een serie testvluchten die Marshall Aerospace uitvoert in opdracht van de Defensie Materieel Organisatie. Woensdag vertrekt de Hercules vanaf Eindhoven voor een testvlucht boven de Noordzee. Donderdag vliegt de Hercules weer terug naar het Engelse Cambridge.

Het toestel, de G-988, voerde op 2 juli dit jaar de eerste testvlucht uit. Defensie verwacht dat het vliegtuig in januari wordt overgedragen aan de luchtmacht. Vervolgens start de zogenoemde Operational Test and Evaluation fase, waarin vliegers en technici ervaring opdoen met het opgewaardeerde toestel.

Met de ingebruikname van beide extra C-130’s groeit de Hercules-vloot van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht tot vier exemplaren.

I'm curious, this C-130 has a Dutch military serial but is still owned by Marshall. Is there a hidden civil registration somewhere?

As far as I know the 988 is bought by and still owned by Klu. Marshalls is just giving it an update...

BTW the formal handover will be at the end of this month. The actual will be when it arrives at Eindhoven.

Spoke to an involved KLu officer at Fairford and he said that the Herk is still owned by Marshall and not delivered yet.

As soon as G-988 will be handed over to the KLu it will be baptized and receive a name.
That's why the plane does not show any name yet, as you can see:

Ok, but still: we can only see a military serial. This would indicate that the bird is owned by KLu, but then it's strange that it still needs to be handed over (or is this just ceremony?).

Without the serial the a/c isn't even allowed to fly; this only shows where she is going to; the KLu ... So far Marshall hasn't completed all the required testing ect so they remain (temp) owner of the planes untill they are handed (back) to 334/336 SQN and that will happen in a small ceremony somewhere in January (also a insurance matter).
