If you are looking for trouble you came to the right place Elvis once sung.
So if I you go to Caracas in Venezuela or any place in Colombia, Bolivia or Equador what can we expect ? Troubles ?
I am very curious about Caracas. What is the best thing to do when you go to that city or the big airfields in the countries I mentioned.
Thank you for the information
It is on my wishlist for 2010

Re: how to spot in south america
Never been to Venezuela or Colombia, but I do know that both countries are on the brink of war at this moment. Tension is rising daily and war could break out anytime. Please do keep a good look on the news before travelling in that direction.

Re: how to spot in south america
That is probably a bit exaggerated.... two main things to reckon with in these countries are criminals and authorities (in that order). So, check beforehand where you can spot safely, dont go to rough neighborhoods and an explanation in Spanish of your hobby will go a long way to prevent trouble with authorities. Caracas is a dangerous place to stay these days, but spotters are active in both Venezuela and Colombia and authorities are getting more and more used to them, at civil airports that is. For military stuff: try to arrange visits beforehand, from outside the fence is not appreciated, often impossible and therefore frustrating...

As a civil spotter I have had no trouble with the law in South America.
You have more to fear from criminals who are after your camera.
Venezuela airfields aer now under militairy control, which will limit your option I guess.
When I was there they had a fantastic terras.
Contacting local spotters or spotting groups in South America works really well.
They can give you very uptodate info, on possibilities aqnd safety.
They will often try to meet up and even show you around.
