Santorini

Post by Rico1969 »

During my hollidays at Santorini, one of the four shelters was open and some military activity was seen there at this old F-4E Phantom FOL. Visiting was SAR AS.332C 2787 Hellenic Air Force.

Normally there is a SAR detachment (used to be B212, could be a Puma these days) and the weekly C-130 from Elefsis (sometimes C-27J). No P-3 practicing circuits at all? The spot on the southside is great. :-)

Yes, the spot here is great. We are on the Kamari beach... and aircraft come incredible low in. We did hear a typical Huey sound so a Bell 212 could be here too. The Super Puma stayed here for at least 3 days.

Cheers from Santorini

Can you imagine being there during the (blue and SEA camo) F-4 era? :-(

My God, yes... I recently discovered some pictures taken at late 90's and early 2000... it was a real paradise! Drinking cocktails and watching Phantoms :worship:

Haha, don't have to imagine as I was, and took the photo's. And while on a beachbed, in the morning the F-4's arrived from Andravida and in the afternoon they wend back home. F1s from Heraclio and A-7's from Souda came by during there mission from Crete.. the year '91 :D

Nice memories!
