EHLW 18-04-2013

Post by Koen L »

Just got a message from someone at the fence saying the mission for this afternoon is cancelled. Probably something to do with the high winds/seastate?

NATO01 is now inbound Frisbee, having departed for the exercise area this morning...

This was because the high winds which were even worse above sea. The a/c could have flown without issues, but the rescue cover over the water was impossible with these winds. That's why a number of a/c didn't fly in the morning (Polish, Swedes). Afternoon mission started their engines, taxied to the runway but returned after a few minutes to their parking positions.

Give it a try next week on 3 spots: Spottershill area allows you to see a number of Grippens (last ones in the row). In the village of Marsum there's a firestation. There's a footpath at the back and next to the firestation which allows you to see some others (mainly the Grippens in the middle), and finally the road from Marsum to Leeuwarden will reveal the first ones. Yesterday I was able to read all of them very clearly.

And mind you. Yesterday one was inside a shelter, which has occured more often this week. So keep that in mind.

From outside you can spot something of the FF planes.

From before the gate (Jelsum side) you can see F-16's. From the left to right: the Polish AF F-16's. Between the first one and the second one was a gap between the row of F-16's. After them are the BAF F-16's en de RNLAF F-16's.

From the Marssum side you can see 2 ramps (by road).
1. the Mirage 2000's 5x en the Mirage F-1CR 4x and the Mig-21 from De Peel (22+45) and the Su-20.
2. the EF-2000's 5x (which one is the 5th?)

From the spottingplace at the Marssum side you can see the F-16 ramp with the Polish AF, BAF and RNLAF onces and the ramp of the Gripens. From the hill you can clearly see the 39834 and 2 other onces. When you walk in the grass field to the tower you can read the Gripens except the 39258 (he is in the shelter, we didn't see him)

In the afternoon has the EC-135 of ADAC and AB-412SP (R-01?) left. Alw-3 A-292 has coming and leaved after the AB-412SP.

In the aternoon mission I saw the LJ-36 and the C-130 leaving. From the F-16 ramp I saw 6x BAF F-16: 2 of them the F-16AM FA-110 (spec. tail) and the F-16BM FB-17 followed by 4x RNLAF F-16's. They were taxiing back to ramp.

Mirage F.1 622/118-FA also flew in the morning mission, plus Dutch F-16s J-511 and J-871. Also visible on the ground when the morning wave was flying were three German EF.2000's, which should be 30+91, 30+93 and 30+94, and two Mirage 2000s (99/115-YB and 523/115-KJ). The fourth Mirage F.1 (614/118-NR) was not on the line unfortunately, just like the sixth Polish Viper (4041) and as already mentioned JAS.39 39258. Didn't try the Belgians.
