Re: REQ: seoul airshow/osan airpower day
Thanks for the info Uni, I didn't know the T-birds were carrying out a PACAF base tour this year.
I see dates of Sep 18: Kunsan and Sep 21: Osan are given for their display's in Korea.

Thanks to sequestration T-birds PACAF tour cancelled. Osan PAO tells me APD's now planned for Sept 28~29.

In light of current cutbacks and cancellation of US airshows, this event is likely not to go ahead.trent wrote:Thanks to sequestration T-birds PACAF tour cancelled. Osan PAO tells me APD's now planned for Sept 28~29.
As reported,Misawa Open House is already cancelled,so it would seem likely this event will go the same way.

Re: REQ: seoul airshow/osan airpower day
Hello,
It guess it is clear that the Osan Airpower day is cancelled but is there more information on the Seoul Airshow?
According to http://www.seouladex.com/ there is KINTEX from the 29th oct till 3rd nov. It is held on an (non airfield) exhibition ground.
Before the KINTEX the site says there is public Airshow at Cheongju from the 25th till the 27th oct. Is there more information on this show? I cannot find it on the internet but may-be I am a bad googler....

Well, can't imagine the site would be wrong about this, Uni also mentioned it earlier in this topic.
They still need to publish information about the participants. Once they do it should be here:
http://www.seouladex.com/eng/visitor/schedule.php
http://www.seouladex.com/eng/visitor/event.php
or:
http://www.seouladex.com/eng/bbs/bbs_li ... id=en_news (2011 schedule is still there)
I've sent a request for more information to the organizers but so far no response. Will post it here as soon as I get something back...

Re: REQ: seoul airshow/osan airpower day
Program is slightly updated now, check: http://www.airshow.or.kr/eng/schedule/flight02.php
Btw, does anyone know which day would be best to attend? I suppose the opening ceremony with the big flypast will take place on Friday only. But what about the airshow? Is it better to add Saturday as well? Or would it be better to sit outside the fence on Thursday when the local jets are still flying their missions and maybe you can catch the rehearsals as well? I'm travelling with my family so I can't attend the entire event, but one or two days should be possible and I'll have to make choices...

Re: REQ: seoul airshow/osan airpower day
I would say the Friday will be the best day to attend due to the flypasts which will not happen Sat/Sun.
However, as with all Korean shows, each day can be different to the one before so I would recommend attending as much of it as you can. Problem with Cheongju for flying is that the show site is north of the runway which of course means shooting into the sun.
Don't bet on active flying the day before the show as being an active fighter base the operations are a little different from Seongnam. If they are flying, don't forget to bring your camo gear otherwise you'll be enjoying a Korean police station (or worse) courtesy of the NSA!

Re: REQ: seoul airshow/osan airpower day
I suppose that outside photography with better light conditions will be possible during the show?

I would think this will be no problem.
No idea where to stand though as I've never been to Cheongju before but GE shows plenty of potential.

Re: Seoul airshow/Osan airpower day 25-27 Oct
Two rather convenient options are marked on this image. Skid marks on the runway show that this is the preferred approach end. The approach is a bit elevated so the best option is the left one. This is on a small hill (with several tombstones). This is not the place to be when there is no air show. Under normal circumstances the right spot is advised (which keeps you more or less out of sight).trent wrote:I would think this will be no problem.

That's very helpful, thanx Stefan! Do you (or someone else) happen to have sample shots that were taken from each spot?

Not my shots, so (educated) guess that these; http://tinyurl.com/qdg8n2c were taken from the right spot.SquAdmin wrote:That's very helpful, thanx Stefan! Do you (or someone else) happen to have sample shots that were taken from each spot?
Either way, this being an air show I would opt for the left spot!
