ETIHAD orders B787's and B777Freighters - 12 December 2011

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Dec. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, today announced an order for 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and two Boeing 777 Freighters.
Valued at a combined $2.8 billion at current list prices, this order will make Etihad the world's largest airline customer of the 787-9. Etihad has a total of 41 787s on order.
The order also increases Etihad's current Boeing 777 backlog to 12 airplanes, which includes 10 previously ordered 777-300ERs (extended range). The Abu Dhabi-based airline's fleet currently includes eight Boeing 777-300ERs and one 777 Freighter.
"Our decision to expand our Dreamliner fleet is testimony to Etihad's commitment to operating one of the youngest and most fuel efficient fleets in the skies," said Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer, Mr. James Hogan. "It also reflects our confidence in the 787's ability to have a significant impact on our operating efficiencies and the passenger experience we can offer onboard this revolutionary aircraft. In the first ever firm 737MAX order, Southwest Airlines has ordered 150 B737MAXs plus 58 737NGs.
The first 737MAX will enter service with Southwest in 2017.

Our good friends at Skywest Airlines (XR/OZW), have placed another order with ATR for 5 ATR72-600s.
This brings the total they have ordered this year to 13 (4 -500s, 9 -600s). This new order includes options for an additional 8 aircraft.

FedEx to buy 27 new Boeing 767-300F aircraft

FedEx Express (FDX) has signed an agreement with The Boeing Company (BA) to purchase 27 new 767-300F aircraft, with three arriving in fiscal 2014 and six per year in fiscal 2015-2018.

The 767s were selected as the best choice to begin replacing FedEx Express’s MD10 aircraft, some of which are more than 40 years old.

The 767s will provide similar capacity as the MD10s, with improved reliability, an approximate 30% increase in fuel efficiency and a minimum of a 20% reduction in unit operating costs.

FedEx has also firmed options for 2 B777F as well as the expected order for the 76s.

And a thread on A.net provided the info that 12 previously unidentified B777 orders have now been identified as 6 B777F for China Southern AL and 6 B777F for Hong Kong AL.

Russia's Transaero to take four 787s

The airline said it had signed an agreement with the US airframer to take the aircraft. It has not disclosed an engine selection.

Director general Olga Pleshakova said the airline was "sticking to a principle of innovation" with the decision.

She added that the carrier had already made advance payments to secure the 787s, which will be used to replace Boeing 767s used by the Moscow-based operator.

Lessor GECAS has upped its existing order with ATR with an additional 2 ATR72-600s (plus two options). This brings their commitment for the type up to 17 firm and 17 options.
