Log France (and Belgium) August/September 2008 part 1

Post by jza »

During a non-spotting holiday with my girlfriend several locations were visited.
As it is too much to post in 1 log, I will post it in different parts.
I have details GPS information for all locations. Please sent me a reply if you want them.
Any additions or updates are very welcome!

At the first day of our holiday in France we decided to visit Brussels and Florennes for the TLP.

Brussels 29-08-2008:

???…………………………(K)C-130……………..Spain
This one was at Melsbroek, but due to the fact that we were in a hurry I didn’t take enough time to read it. Anyone with the serial?

After this we drove to France.
The next day we visited some locations on our way to the Provence.

Lyon - Mont Verdun – Limonest BA942 30-08-2008:

41/10-RT……………………Mirage IIIC
148/12-YH………………….Super Mystere B2
The base is quite easy to find if you take the Autoroute exit to Limonest and then look for the signs to BA942. You have to drive up hill, which gives you a nice overview.
The Super Mystere is at the gate and the Mirage is near a running track which is on the right at the T-junction.

Montelimar – Ancone, Musee de l’Aviation de Chasse 30-08-2008:

(FU-29)……………………..F-84F

N56NA……………………...C-53C……………………..Real serial 43-2023
NF-11-1……………………..Meteor NF11

I read all the planes from outside. We decided not to wait for the museum opened at 14.30 hr LT.

Orange 30-08-2008:

121/5-OL…………………...Super Mystere B2
(10035/5-NT)……………….Vampire FB6……………….Real serial J-1124
All planes are preserved at the gate and can be seen from outside. The Vampire is quite difficult to see due to trees, but you can see the tail if you look to the right when standing in front of the gate.

Aviomodelli-France (stad, ZAC du Coudoulet):

You can visit this museum on Saturday afternoon by paying a small entrance fee.
Almost everything is outside, except 1 Mystere.
The last 3 planes are new and not mentioned in the EMOOS.
According to the man that was in the museum, the missing Super Mystere B2, N1101 and the other CM170 are gone.

Marseille – Marignane 30-08-2008:

23……………………………Grumman S-2 Firecat………Securite Civile
22……………………………Grumman S-2 Firecat………Securite Civile
20……………………………Grumman S-2 Firecat………Securite Civile

38……………………………Canadair CL-415……………Securite Civile
48……………………………Canadair CL-415……………Securite Civile
74……………………………DHC-8………………………Securite Civile
73……………………………DHC-8………………………Securite Civile
The best spot to read planes at Marseille – Marignane is near the cemetery in Marignane.
From here you have a clear view across the airfield and can you read a lot (also at Eurocopter) with a good telescope.

Looks like a nice "non-spotting" holiday!
Montelimar – Ancone, Musee de l’Aviation de Chasse 30-08-2008:

235………………………….Mirage IIIB
Interesting! I understood that this one had already moved to Baarlo, is this not the case then?
Looking forward to the next part!
Cheers,

I'm not 100% sure about that one.
As explained I looked from outside and couldn't read every Mirage serial. The Mirages are standing "far away" with many planes in front of them, so I had to count them and compare it with other logs and the EMOOS.
I know about the Alpha Jet/Mirage deal with mr. Smeds, and the Alpha Jet is indeed present in the museum.

Anyone who can solve this puzzle? ;-)

I wish I could.... I have a few new additions compared with EMOOS, but thiose don't include a Mirage III. I guess you'll have to be patient; I'm sure someone will visit here sooner or later.
