NH90s being phased out

Post by Worldnis »

A40-025 is the MRH-90 helicopter involved in the incident (22MAR2). Articles mention "Netherlands, Germany and Sweden are beginning to phase out their MRH-90 fleets in favour of American helicopters" which is not correct. It is Norway who has axed their 14 unit NH90 fleet, while Sweden intends to standardize on the H-60 Blackhawk, but no firm replacement for their high-cab NH90's ordered yet. Germany and The Netherlands currently do not have plans to phase out NH90. Germany ordered Chinooks as replacement for their CH-53, not NH90 related. Other NH90 news comes from Belgium, who is phasing out 4 NH90 naval versions while holding on to their 4 TTH units. All in all NHI will not be too pleased about all the negative NH90 news in the past year or so.

Hi,

"--- Other NH90 news comes from Belgium, who is phasing out 4 NH90 naval versions while holding on to their 4 TTH units ---". Isn't hat the other way around? Keeping the Naval NH90s and phasing out the TTHs ? (and in fact looking for another, extra, Naval 90?)

Yes. Belgium will keep their 4 NH-90 NHF (and seek to buy a 5th one).

The 4 NH-90TTH will be phased out. Belgium has askeb price for 4 CH-47.

only 4 Chinooks? in the STAR-plan it is noted 8 to 10 machines.
if they only buy 4 of them, they are going to make the same mistake as with the NH90-TTH, too few to be operationally relevant.

Perhaps a mutual use with Netherlands.
