Hawgsmoke'12 and others...

Post by raptor »

Hi all,

4Aviation organized a trip to Hawgsmoke '12 @ Davis Monthan AFB...

First day was on base and included a walk on the flightline and a spot along the runway.

After the small tour on base we decided to find a spot in the approach...

The next day was a full day on the "Gila Bend range". Although expectations were high, it was a little bit disappointing cause the targets for the A-10s were veeeeryyyy far away....:-(:-(:-(

Only the DM guys knew how to make a low pass. Too bad there was no sun @ that moment....
Image
After this boring hot day on the range I was very happy to jump into my bed :-)

The next day was reserved for a day of spotting along the fence of Tucson Int. AP.

Nice to see so many F-16s flying (including the already posted RF-4C :-):-):-)).

Ok... a bit off topic...but...as I (and some others) will not really hot of W&R we decided to create some kind of new spotting group... ;-)
To protect the safety of the guy...his indentity will not be published...;-)
Image

Ok...back to some real action...departures for the A-10s were planned for Saturday, so we decided to look for a reasonable spot to make some t/o shots.

Also an AMARG overflight was done...very nice addition was a Colombian AF C-130 on the ramp :-)

Image

Not bad for a Sunday @ Phoenix-Mesa Gateway AP...
Image

A great catch @ Mesa Falcon field!

Thanks 4Aviation for this nice trip!

Thanks for looking!

John

Very nice report!

Is Mesa Falcon Field that open? Or was that a visit of sorts?

Hey EriK, yes Falcon Field is that much open, if you go through the Terminal, you have a small 1 meter fence. However these CH-47D pictures were made possible thanks to The FBO guy whoe let us on the Platform.
When the 4A guys left, me and a local photographer stayed, and were treated with the arrival of an CH-47F and het again let us on the Platform. Here's some pics from the other guy, credit to Chris Pasley, AZaP.

Nice pictures! Good memories in the PHX area! Especially Falcon Field and Gateway where I made dozens of touch-and-goes during my flight training!

Nice set of pictures!
Ik really like the diversity of Warthogs you see in the States, especially during 'HawgSmoke'.

Unfortunately, next year the last Hogs will vanish out of Europe (Spangdahlem AB)...
