Pilot dies after vintage plane crashes in Bedfordshire
The pilot of a vintage aircraft which crashed during a display at a Bedfordshire air show has died, police have confirmed.
His plane came down at Old Warden Aerodrome, near Biggleswade, during the event attended by more than 600 people.
The man, said to be in his 40s, was taken to hospital but later died. Organisers cancelled the show.
The de Havilland DH 53 crashed at the back of the airfield while taking part in a display.
The Shuttleworth Collection can confirm that earlier today an aircraft experienced difficulties and crashed at the airfield.
Emergency Services and the Air Ambulance were called to the scene and one casualty airlifted to hospital.
We are not releasing details of the persons identity or the nature of the injuries incurred.
Todays planned airshow has been cancelled to allow accident investigators to assess the scene.
We would like to thank both on-site and external emergency crews for their prompt reaction.

Very sad news indeed... my condolences to the friends and relatives of the pilot.
Aircraft involved was the extremely rare, unique DH53 Hummingbird G-EBHX of 1923 vintage

BTW: shouldn't this thread be in the Vintage, warbirds, etc section?
