Hi!
Since last week there are industrial actions taking place at FedEx's CDG base, so they moved part of their flights to CGN. Yesterday I finally made my way there...no work in the afternoon, perfect weather, the clouds from Iceland proved not to be too bad, so I went to Cologne right after work
I had just arrived in the 'Wahner Heide', when this colorful bird passed...this will be the only pax plane in this report, btw
Then the cargo action started...a first A300F, not from FedEx but Egyptair Cargo:
Now it was FedEx time...at first an MD11 came in, then the highlight of the day, one of their still quite new 777s:
One of the four MD11 seen during my stay:
An Airbus...
...followed directly by a 757:
Within two hours I had seen at least one example of (almost) every airplane model FedEx uses for their European flights
In the evening UPS added some other colors with a MD 11 and finally a 747:
a perfect day!!

Very, very nice shots in perfect weather!
next friday (june 3) I 'll be there as well, with the same target; getting as much freighters as possible.
Unforunately the wind will be from the north I am afraid, so opposite arrivaldirection.
From what time the cargo action start?
(as I am planning to go to DUS thoughout the day and move to CGN after 15h or so.....)

Hi!
Thanks
Conditions were indeed perfect on Wednesday.
Starting at DUS in the morning and then moving over to CGN is always a good idea...
Most cargoflights seem to arrive in the afternoon, Friday doesn't seem to be the busiest day though (anyway, at least some UPS planes should be there), but if You're lucky the FedEx flights will continue till then...
Northern winds are not so bad...in fact the sun is (if shining) even a little better, as it moves towards the front of the plane. You might consider this area http://maps.google.de/maps?f=q&source=s ... 1&t=h&z=18 (uuhh...long link...)
Hv fun at CGN...n if u have any more question, don't hesitate to send me a PM!

Hi!
Thx! (:
I was standing near the green arrow, if I remember correctly, or maybe a few meters from there (;
http://maps.google.de/maps?q=50.885367, ... 05681&z=18
This is what it looks like:
It's a great place to stay, the only drawback being the quite big distance to the approach line, but 200mm is enough for everything from a 737 upwards.

Hi!
That's right, but it's only a 5 to 10 minutes walk...there's a big parking place at the road called 'Alte Kölner Straße'. From there You just follow the red dots and choose Your favourite place. You are however strictly supposed to stay on the paths though, as this is a former military area and therefore it's possible that some remaining explosives are lying around somewhere...I hv never seen anything like that, but there are signs everywhere telling this ~_^ .
