Marana-Pinal Air Park-Shell AHP - 2010

During a great 4aviation trip to the U.S., we had, after doing AMARG Air-to-Ground, some fuel left for a single pass overhead Marana / Pinal Air Park /Shell AHP

As I am not into civil, hereby our LOG from Saterday 20 Novembr 2010. As only the last three are worn in white, Fiscal years are assumped. Some of the Apaches had the Longbow Radar attached.

Unread, due to the lack of white serials, were about 12 Apaches (about twenty in toal present) and there was also one more H-58 (so six in total)

Beside that, they have three helicopters on gate, which should be the following (not read off):
70-15153 OH-58A
66-15255 AH-1G
67-15471 AH-1S

On Pinal Air Park was a single F-101 under restaurantion, serial unknown to me.
Also there were two, altough civil registered, interesting C.212 parked (N426CA and N497CA), but our pilot of this overflight was also a C.212 pilot flying these two around the globe ;-)

Edit:

After looking at the Cactus yahoo group reveiled that the F-101 is the 57-0332.
And suprise, one of the B747 Bare Metal with a rare bumb behind the cockpit is USAF E-4B 75-0125!!!!!

If we are talking the same place ( i.e the compound alongside the road to the ANG base ) then when I drove past it last week , it contained a single-seat F-101 marked 32418 ( making it the first prod. aircraft ?? ) plus 2x F-89 ( one assembled , the other with wings off ) plus an H-34 . I don't think I was dreaming

In 2007 I noted the following in that compound (located at N32°30'29.10" W111°18'49.73") in various recognizable stages of assembly/storage:

57-332 F-101F

Interesting compound with that ever changing material!

It was in an area close to the HU-16B's on the right side of the road in a corner. Didn't notice the other aircraft, but probabaly they were there as well.

Sounds like the same place. How odd that they change that often, or does Evergreen trade in such things ?

It is effectively a restoration area for their museum at McMinnville, Oregon.

I checked apache 315 and 215 and both didnt had a Longbow radar attached, so a normal AH-64A model is possible as well. Thanks

Dennis, I agree fully with the comments of The DJ. Can you check one additional Apache for me? I have doubts about 223 as they do have the A-model 89-00223 as well as D-model 00-05223. For your reference, an AH-64A has a small and long air data sensor positioned above the rotorhead, while an AH-64D mostly carries the obvious Longbow rader or has 'provisions for' (like the Dutch Apaches).

Going through some old photos from Silverbell a few years ago (1st March 2009!) and stumbled across this.

I have a photo that shows an AH-64 '223' which I'm confident is a D. A close study of the photos shows that the A doesn't have the strobe lights on the engine casings and the D doesn't have the air data sensor on top of the rotorhead (as pointed out above). Very few of the US Ds seem to carry the Longbow radar, so that's not a good indicator (and a quick Google suggests it's removeable).

I was there on 8th of March 2009 and can confirm I also noted 00-05223, a D model. We also did a photo flight, so should have a photo to confirm this. Still missing from that day are 3 AAC Apaches and about 5 Singapore Apaches.
