SIA, Airbus investigate A380 smoke incident
By Greg Waldron

The crew of a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 on the Singapore-Hong Kong route discharged a halon extinguisher after smelling smoke in an aircraft lavatory.

"There was no fire, although as a precaution a halon extinguisher was discharged by the crew," says an SIA spokesman.

The aircraft landed without incident in Singapore.

After landing, "ground crews later found signs of burns to electrical wiring in the forward cargo hold," he adds.

The incident occurred on 31 January as the aircraft descended into Singapore.

The carrier is conducting an investigation with Airbus.

"Airbus is aware of the incident, and a team of Airbus experts and engineers is supporting SIA and the investigation," says a spokesman for the airframer.

The registration of the aircraft involved is 9V-SKD.
