Ryanair skips 13 destinations from Weeze, summer 2011

Post by frank kramer »

Ryanair cancels 84 weekly flights from Weeze (NRN/Germany) to 13 destinations as a result of a new German tourist tax. Destinations affected include Berlin, Krakow, Oslo, Santander and Zaragoza. RYR also skips 4 flights from its base at Berlin/SXF, 8 from Bremen and 9 from Frankfurt-Hahn.

Well done by Ryanair to use the German touristtax as reason to shutdown bad performing routes...

It seems the German government are as hell-bent to destroy jobs in the aviation industry as is the British government.

Could not Ryanair move these routes to an airport in the Netherlands where airport taxes are nowhere as prohibitive as they are in Germany?.

Moving their Weeze base to the Netherlands is not (yet) an option, due to the opening times at Eindhoven (which is the prime location for Ryanair to possibly open a new base). Due to the opening times at Weeze, which are better for Ryanair, based aircraft can fly a round-trip more per day than if they were based at Eindhoven.
