Pan American Airways have officially announced their re-establishment and the reopening of the Gateway to Latin America located at the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO) in Texas, USA. Starting in 2011, Pan American Airways will launch inaugural flights from BRO to Monterrey (MTY) in Mexico, as well as other Mexico cities, with 2 leased B727. The carrier will fly 70 cargo flights a month from BRO to destinations in Latin America. Future cargo services will include flights to Rio de Janeiro in support of the 2016 Olympic games and the World Cup. Pan American Airways and sister company World-Wide Consolidated Logistics opened a TSA-certified Cargo Screening Facility on September15th at the BRO. This is now open to other air cargo charter companies. Services to Africa, as well as passenger routes, are also in the pipeline. Pan Am was the principal US international air carrier from the late 1920s until its collapse in December 1991. (EyeForTransport & AirCargoWorld & IFW, November15th 2010).
