During my holidays in Surinam operation Continuing Promise 2010 took place there. It was a tour of USS Iwo Jima, on a humanitarian mission, visiting 7 South American countries of which Surinam was the last of the list. The operation started on Oct 28 and should have lasted till Nov 7th. The operation existed of ferrying medical specialists of US and Europe, stationed on Iwo Jima, to Paramaribo and ferrying patients to the Iwo Jima for medical attention that could not be done in the Surinam hospitals. Sadly the operation was cancelled on Nov 1st because of hurricane Thomas. The help of the ship was wanted more in the Carribean.
