Accident: Chanchangi B732 at Kaduna on Aug 20th 2010, landed short of runway

created Sunday, Aug 22nd 2010 14:55Z, last updated Sunday, Aug 22nd 2010 22:34Z

A Chanchangi Airlines Boeing 737-200, registration 5N-BIF performing flight 5B-334 from Abuja to Kaduna (Nigeria) with 35 passengers, was on final approach to Kaduna's runway 23 in turbulent conditions around 21:45L (20:45Z), when the airplane contacted the localizer antenna and several approach lights before a hard touch down short of the runway threshold and came to a stop on the runway.
The aircraft was evacuated. A number of passengers received minor injuries (bruises), the airplane received substantial damage to undercarriage and the belly of the fuselage.

Nigeria's Accident Investigation Board have opened an investigation.

Chanchangi Airlines, whose operations had been repeatedly suspended in the past by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nigeria, said they have suspended operations while waiting for the return of two aircraft which currently undergo maintenance checks in Europe.

Flight 5B-334's complete route is Lagos-Abuja-Kaduna.

Kaduna features a runway 05/23 of 3000 meters/9800 feet length with an ILS/DME approach to runway 05.
