Kingfisher grounds nine A320s on engine problems
By Ghim-Lay Yeo
India's Kingfisher Airlines has grounded nine of its Airbus A320 family aircraft after encountering problems with the aircraft's International Aero Engines V2500 engines.
The aircraft experienced "technical issues" with stages three to eight of the 10-stage high-pressure compressor in the engine, among other problems, says a Kingfisher spokesman.
"Because we place the safety of our guests, crew and aircraft above everything else, the impacted aircraft were grounded pending rectification," he adds.
Three of the nine grounded aircraft will return to service in two weeks once their engines are overhauled, says the spokesman, who declines to elaborate on the remaining aircraft.
Kingfisher operates 34 A320 family aircraft, all powered by IAE V2500 engines. according to Flightglobal's ACAS database.
IAE officials were not immediately contactable for comment.
