SOME SUMMER HOLIDAY PICS FROM GREECE
Hi All,
This year I spent the summer holiday in Greece with the wife.
Last year it was my turn to choose the place to go so this year she wanted to Greece and picked out some very nice all inclusive resorts in Greece.
Unfortunately for her she didn''t know they were very close to some really nice spotting places....
So we went out some times to catch some nice birds.
This is what we saw:
We started at Araxos we they started flying at 07:30!
The A-7's are still going strong and hope they will for some years!
Also the brand new F-16 Block 52's are based here, which also fly very good!
I really love those high backs!
A rare line up which you never will see outside of greece.
After 50 minutes the A-7's returned. All their missions were exactly this long.
I was very happy that a lot off TA-7C trainers were noted this day.
The F-16's were flying very long, this one came back after more than 2 hours!
Our next stop was at Phantom Town Andravida were they also started early.
To bad the 339 MPK "Aias" don't fly with tailbands, but it still a beautifull plane
On this tail you can easy read that it belongs to the 338 MPK with their yellow/black tailbands.
And even from behind in this angle, it still looks nice
Our last paradise was Kalamata, were they only fly in the morning and not on fridays!
Another nice old bird is this T-2E Buckeye, we noted more than 30 different ones flying this periode.
Replacing the old T-37 is done by the well know T-6A, which also have a number of stored ones at this base.
Personal I did'nt find this machine the most photo genic of my favorite Hellenic Air Force.
Hope you like them and all comment are more than welcome.
Our full LOG will follow soon on this messageboard.
Happy Spotting in Greece,
Gips and Girlfriend

Visiting Kalamata can be a dangerous pastime
Very nice report Gips!
But you may want to change the title somewhat: this caption will probably mostly draw "civil spotters"

Hi Gijs,
nice catches indeed !!
Just wondering, is Greece turning spotter-friendly or is there a story behind the pics, especially the taxitrack shots at Araxos?
Regards, Arjen.

Hi All,
Thanks for the compliments!
All the shots are taking from outside the base and without any problems......
But I must say that we were very careful and watching around all the time.

Re: SOME SUMMER HOLIDAY PICS FROM GREECE
Very nice pictures Gijs, especially considering they were taken from outside. Makes you a real daredevil if you ask me. I guess you must have been extremely lucky as I can't image that you can hide so well that they didn't notice you considering the proximity of your pictures to the airbases.
But again, well done!

Re: SOME SUMMER HOLIDAY PICS FROM GREECE
Hi All,
GIPS, personally I don't believe that all the pics are taken from outside because in Araxos and Andravida are taken from the taxiway. (the pilots are close and you can see the grass up in front)
Only in Kalamata are taken from the runway beggining and though outside the base.
I'm curious to see also the shots from Tatoi, Elefsis and Megara, you mentioned GIPS.
Thanks in advance.
