Can anyone help with spotting at Langebaanweg and Ysterplaat air bases? In the area in November and wondered whether either are accessible and if any issues with local plod?
I know Ysterplaat has a museum on base but unsure if anything on the ramps/runways etc is visible from there?

Re: REQ: Spotting In South Africa
Hi,
I've been to Ysterplaat last year. The entire base is surrounded by a wall so next to nothing can be seen from outside. The museum is not located anywhere near the ramps or runways, so nothing much is visible from there either - albeit an onbase preserved Impala and Shack . However, when I was there, Shackleton 1722 had its monthly groundrun - and that was on the operational ramps and was accessible for the public. Loads to see in the museum storage but not so much on the ramps.
I was told the groundruns are being done every last saturday of the month. Don't know if that's still the case however.
Hope this helps! Going there again in november, btw.

Re: REQ: Spotting In South Africa
hi all
was there last march unexpected.
went to the first gate and tell them you want to go the museum.
The will let you in because the active base is after another check point.
Go the the small museum building ,after passing the shack on display, and ask inside if it is possible to see the flying collection at the flightline hangar witch is locked. We went with the persons private car and could spot some active C47 and lynx heli's and saw lots of seakings( not redable)
succes
