Pilot aborts takeoff in Tulsa; plane damaged

Post by Henk Voortwijs »

A single-engine plane was damaged Monday morning when the pilot aborted a takeoff and it ran off the runway at Jones Riverside Airport.

The Cessna 210 was carrying only a pilot, and he had no reported injuries. The pilot was trying to take off from the airport at 8605 S. Elwood Ave. just after 10:30 a.m. and didn't feel like he was getting enough lift, so he aborted the takeoff, Tulsa Fire Department Acting District Chief Kevin Frazier said.

The plane then ran off the runway, damaging the landing gear, propeller and a wing.

Crash: Meanwhile, two Arkansans survived a plane crash Sunday in far eastern Oklahoma.

The plane lost power and crashed into a pasture northeast of Muldrow about 6:30 p.m., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. The pilot, Lawrence Harrod, 74, of Natural Dam, Ark., had minor injuries, while his passenger, Dustin C. Lane, also of Natural Dam, was uninjured, the OHP reported.

Troopers said Harrod told them the plane was too heavy.
