Belarus Su-27 demo Radom August 28th, tribute to two heroes
Flying home from Poland this morning I decided to start a phototopic called “The best solo flying display. Ever.”
Because this is what the Belarus Su-27 crew did on Friday during rehearsal.
I talked with the crew on Thursday. They were very friendly and very proud of their aircraft. "It is the best" is what one of hem said.
A few hours ago I heard about the tragedy at Radom, so I changed my topic-title.
Here are some photo’s of the most impressive solo display I saw. Ever.

I hope the guy in green got good photos, because he ruined mine.

Hi Paul,
Great tribute and nice pictures.
On film footage of the crash I observe some parts falling away from the Flanker. The origin of the parts seems to come from behind the cockpit area (enginebay?). It looks like there is a small explosion in that area just prior to the parts departing.
And I was just happy again that some "beautifull Eastern hardware" visited a NATO airshow again. Shame to see this happening.
But I must admit that I always feel a bit "nervous" when an aircraft type of an airforce without enough money for proper maintenance and flying training takes part in an airshow.
Too many russian aircrafttypes fel out of the sky recently during airshows or airshowtraining.
Best regards,
Berry K.

It's very sad what happened ... but oh boy .. what a plane it is. Very nice shot ... especially the last one looks very impressive.
Thanks for sharing them .. but hard to realize these men flying the Su-27 are not there anymore.

Very nice (and sharp) pics. Still wonder why these 'expert' pilots keep crashing these fine planes. Last week at the MAKS rehearsels, now this. Sorry to hear about the loss of another two lifes.
I always say a boy can learn more at an airport than at any school.

Not having anything to do with the crash or the event itself, but: why does this Flanker still carry red Soviet / Russian stars on the wings, instead of the Belarussian flag (which is carried on the tails)? (Awesome pics, by the way!)

Belarus never got really used to nor pleased with its independence and reports surface from time to time that the country may merge with Russia. That's why they always kept the Red Star.
Awesome shot BTW of the flares. The best Su.27 flare shot I ever saw anwhere, including the one of the Russian Knights at Al Ain. A sad thing those pilots had to loose their lives this way.
Hans.

I am not an expert, nor claim to be, but my hunch would be that if you only fly a very very limited number of hours per year you should act accordingly when displaying such a fine machine.Thermal wrote:Still wonder why these 'expert' pilots keep crashing these fine planes.

Thx for this great Photos!
I visit Radom from Friday morning to the time of the tragedy.
During the Crash we standing just 1km away from the Su-27.
Because the Polish Air Force let us take Photos from the southside
of the Base.
The Trainingflight on friday was really impressiv!
So Iam really looking forward to see this Su again... but

Real sad to read about the events, especially as the qualification flight on Friday was awesome and well within any safety levels (so it seemed).
