First E-190 for Austria's Niki

Post by Boudewijn van Oirschot »

NIKI gets its first Embraer 190

Embraer has delivered the first E-190 for Austria’s NIKI Luftfahrt during a ceremony at the manufacturer's headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The aircraft will serve the airline’s European network, operating from Vienna and Innsbruck, in Austria.

The aircraft is the first from a deal announced in July 2008 during the Farnborough Airshow comprising five firm orders plus five purchase rights.

The low-fare carrier will become the first in Europe to combine the 100-seat Embraer 190, optimised for mid-density routes, with conventional 150- to 210-seat narrowbody aircraft, optimised for high-density routes.

“The Embraer 190 fits perfectly into our growth strategy. The aircraft is ideal for the establishment of new routes, as it keeps the start-up costs low and offers passengers the familiar comfort of a medium-haul jet,” said Niki Lauda, founder and President of NIKI Luftfahrt. “This jet is, by far, the most economical in the 100–seat class. The carbon dioxide emissions are considerably lower than comparable jets, and it is the most environmentally-friendly aeroplane of this size.”

Where is the photo mentioned in the last sentence? Is it too much effort to name the author of this press report?
