Plane tire catches fire during landing

Post by JS50557 »

No serious injuries were reported after an emergency evacuation from a Southwest Airlines plane arriving in Houston Tuesday night, officials said.

As Flight 519 touched down at Hobby Airport just before 8 p.m. CDT, a tire on its right side blew out and caught fire, Southwest Airlines spokesman Paul Flaningan said. The plane was carrying 47 passengers and a crew of five.

Impressive video. I think they first had to shutdown the engines to get the pax safe of the plane. It's takes rather long indeed but maybe safety reasons. No speculation what so ever, just a quick thought.

Nice video...but weird that they only started evacuating after the firefighter commando car arrived.
The tower should hv seen that it was serious enough to evacuate

Also see how the traveller acts. Several take their handluggage with them outside.
One man drops his stuff on the ground after sliding down. He had to grab his stuff once again from the ground.
Passengers take position only a few meters from the plane, in the grass. Some start making video/photos on their cellphones.
What if the plane catches big fire? What if the handluggage taken obstructs quick evacuation for others? And standing so close to the plane is not save, since nobody knows what will happen further.
So, although the evacuation succeeded, it is definitely not a good profile for the future. Crew/groundstaff should arrange passengers/crew to proceed to an area more far away.

I think they have not read the safety card before the flight... Taking handluggage with you during emergency is prohibited.
