FOUR fire engines and 20 firefighters stood by at Southampton Airport last night when a passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing.
The crew of an Flybe flight from Glasgow reported it had lost the power of one engine.
The plane, flight BE887, carrying 45 passengers landed safely shortly before 7pm.
A spokesman for Flybe said: "In line with standard industry practice, Southampton Airport placed emergency services on standby.
"Safety remains Flybe's number one priority and the company will always take the necessary precautionary measures to ensure that the safety of our passenger and staff is never compromised."
Hampshire Police said the M27 at junction five was shut "for a few minutes" as a precautionary measure.
