Wittmund 13 and 14 Aug.

Post by herky75 »

Last week I finally paid a visit to Wittmund.
The plan was also to visit some surrounding fields, with an invitation from Wikking helicopter services at Jade-Weser airport.

On Thursday I left early in the morning to arrive at Wittmund around 10 am.
Obviously the goal was to capture the skyhawks and alphajets.

It was an easterly wind, so I looked for a spot halfway down the runway.
Upon arrival, local eurofighters and skyhawks quickly arrived.

Around 11 am, however, it became terribly quiet, until 1.30 pm.
Fortunately, there was some nice visitors this break 2 Danish F-16s and a Buchel Tornado.

At 1.30 pm, things got back to life, and an alphajet was actually dragged out. of the shelter.
The alphajet was also started, but unfortunately turned off again shortly after, when the cockpit was covered, the hope that it would fly was gone.

After all the birds had landed again, we ended the day there, and we drove briefly to Harlesiel, this is a small field in the area, where local aircraft (mainly Islanders) run flights to the German islands. .

Below some pictures of this field.

After this I went to my hotel in Jever, to go to Jade-Weser the next morning.

Unfortunately the visit at Wikking was canceled, and there was not much to see on Jade-Weser the next morning.
Flight radar showed that the Alphajet was flying, so I decided to go back to Wittmund.
The wind had changed, so beautiful take-off and landing shots could be made.
Around 10 am I was back at Wittmund.
Unfortunately, the alphajet had just landed on arrival, so I was not able to see it flying.

The QRA scrambeled, see the photos below.

Around 12 the QRA birds came back, and flying activities stopped.

On the way back home, I made a brief stop at Emden Airport, where unfortunately was not much activities.

Amazing shots, your prefered is mine as well.

I really need to go there for spotting. Farmers are ok with spotters considering the fact that you are "waiting" in their field?
