bridge cameras

Hi all,

After sticking to analog photography rather long, being a happy Canon + Sigma user, I used the same brands when entering the digital era. With average results, likely based on a too basic Canon model, and after last season saw some trouble with my equipment I will make a re-start this year.

Now I stumbled over latest generation bridge cameras, some with 'monster zoom' lenses, like the Nikon Coolpix P1000 or Lumix FZ2000. After some reading I have more or less eliminated the Nikon, as the autofocus seems not to be fast enough, while the Lumix is said having a really fast autofocus. However this does not expressively say that it is also good for fast moving objects.

Well, the only photo treatment I normally do is cutting off an edge, and I don't need a camera that shows me the burst vein in the pilots eye. But fast enough to give me sharp photos of an approaching plane is what it should do.
Has anybody made practical experience using such bridge cameras in our hobby?

Hi Martin,
I now use the Sony RX10 iv after years of lugging around a Canon 5D & 7D mk2 along with lens like 100-400 mk2. All that weight . The Sony has a 24-600 range, and now I use it a lot more as it’s already set up & in reach. I have used in Japan last Nov/Dec.

I like my Sony.

Thanks Mike. While SLR digital cameras with interchangeable lenses still seem to be THE standard, technology moves on, and I feel tempted looking closer at the bridge cam scene. Life test at Frisian Flag for example )

The Sony seems more or less double in price compared to the Lumix and also Nikon, so I study carefully before deciding.
