USA trip MIL South-West, March 2018 Part I
Like so many of our fellow spotters, we decided to make the trip to the United States. On the Internet we saw the most interesting Air Shows and Exercises popping-up in the South-West area of the States. Although the dates of a few Air Shows changed very last minute and some participating Units cancelled for the Red and Green Flag, there was still enough excitement happening! So we just made some changes in our schedule and tweaked it a little bit. We departed from Dusseldorf/Germany to Los Angeles/United States, were we picked-up our rental car after an unexpected quick border check. That same day the Nissan Altima brought us to MCAS Miramar were we noted our first number log.
The next day we took the North Harbour tour for yet another number log. After that we drove to El Centro and unfortunately arrived too late for the Air Show, but still were able to make a number log. We spend two great days in Southern California where the sun always sines, except for those two days we were there! Hopefully the next day, SUNday, it will do its name justice…
This time we were lucky, we had a sunny day when the Marines exercise ended. We captured many helicopters departing from Mesa Gateway Airport to their own stations in some fine sunny circumstances.
