in april I will be in the neighbourhood of Fort Hood, Texas. Does anybody have any information about spotting near this base?

Fort Hood is difficult. You can have a view at the south east corner of the AAF. However it will be a distant view. If the wind is from the north and the helo's take the runway you may have some luck.
Better option to see helo's is killeen/draughon-miller airport. Dyncorp is located there that does maintenance on blackhawks, kiowas, and apaches. Waco TSTC might be a good option as well. L3 does maintenance there on c130 and work on some foreign aircraft.
