AMS - UK Market Developments 2014

Post by XYZ »

This is a review of the AMS-UK passenger market for the year 2014.

Each year, I post an analysis of developments in the AMS-UK market over the last 12 months. The United Kingdom is Schiphol's largest and most important market, it is therefore interesting to see how individual routes perform in comparison to previous years.

2014 was a record year for Schiphol's most important market. AMS finally broke the previous passenger record for AMS-UK traffic set in 2007. Demand for air travel between NL-UK has grown by 6.5% and many routes set new individual route records.

Total Market for AMS-UK-AMS:
- 2014 = 8.187.379 +6.5%
- 2013 = 7.668.889 +3,9%
- 2012 = 7.403.806 +3,4%
- 2011 = 7.158.000 +10,1%
- 2010 = 6.484.800 -0.9%
- 2009 = 6.544.135 -9,6%
- 2008 = 7.232.400 -7,3%
- 2007 = 7.801.718 +1%

The following routes set new all-time passenger records in 2014:

1. Guernsey = 1.353 NEW
2. Cambridge = 7.832 = +69.4%
3. Southend = 200.635 = +34.7%
4. Exeter = 44.523 +25,9%
5. Southampton = 125.210 + 20,9%
6. Inverness = 36.414 +13,7%
7. London Gatwick = 848.996 +13.2%
8. Birmingham = 507.340 +10,4%
9. Bristol = 350.097 = +9.1%
10. Luton = 379.033 +7.6%
11. Edinburgh = 601.011 +7.1%
12. Glasgow = 414.375 +6.2%
13. Manchester = 728.287 +6,0%
14. Aberdeen = 307.131 +5,3%
15. Newcastle = 366.540 +2.9%
16. London City = 416.630 +2.5%

But some routes continue to loose passengers, some have lost traffic for many years:

1. Manston = 12.344 -65.6% - KLM closed this route in April 2014 as MSE airport was closed.
2. Jersery = 6.096 -10.5% - Blue Island Airways changed from 3x/week non-stop ATR42 to 2x/week non-stop + 1x/week via GUE.
3. Belfast BFS = 97.262 -7.0% - easyJet continues to loose passengers on this route. KLM will open BHD daily in 2015.
4. Liverpool = 204,163 -1,5% - easyJet continues to loose passengers on this route.

- Will LGW continue to grow as fast as it did in 2013 and 2014.
- MAN will grow as FlyBe opened this route in competition with KL and EZY.
- NCL will fall as EZY is closing this route on 31 May.
- GUE and JER will disappear as Blue Islands stopped operating these two routes.

Don't want to be nitpicking but Guernsey's code is GCI and not GUE :!:

At least you're consistent

(GUE is Guriaso in PG)
