For me it was the first time they had such a problem with me being there. They said that they can't forbide me to take pictures of aircraft in the air or watch with some bino's, but after a 30minutes discussion they promised me to keep coming back and check me out whenever they saw me with a camera or my bino's. They even wanted my home adress and telephone number, so I expect at least a christmas card and a phonecall when it's my birthday..... But after all I read almost all aircraft and stayed for another 3 hours with no trouble at all.andel wrote:So in the back of a USAF police car !!

Those guys must be living under a stone to *not* know anything about aircraft spotting around Ramstein. It's not that this place is quite unfamiliar with spotters..
This triggers me onto making a short FAQ with a little description "All-you-ever-need-to-know-about-spotters-but-were-afraid-to-ask" to handout to USAF MP's, Greek policemen and Tuirkish locals (to name a few). But I am starting to get off-topic here

Believe me, if these USAF policemen were just flow in from the States, they probably won't know. Also, they probably have had some lecture in the USAF's Eagles Eyes Program, which aims to discourage people from monitoring military flying activities (due to "terrorist threat" )nilsko wrote:Those guys must be living under a stone to *not* know anything about aircraft spotting around Ramstein.

No, I wasn't on base. I parked the car near the main gate and walked down the road near the beginning of runway 09 and 08. For me it also was the first time they were outside the base. But after all the only thing they say that they were not happy that I was there, but that they couldn't send me away.Richard from Rotterdam wrote:where were you exactly when this happened? You must have been on base somewhere, as the US police, as far as I know, do not have any jurisdiction outside the military property.

Hi all,
I paid a visit to Spangdahlem with Polleke yesterday and decided to walk along the fence to the eastern approach. It appears that the USAF decided to chop down some of the woods to clear approach path, however the wind got hold on the rest of the trees and now the entire approach is clear of trees. There you can stand next to the fence, a little below the airfield with a great view of the approach!
Best regards,
Arjan

Hi Bjorn,
I have some questions and corrections for you.
The C-5B 87-0028 436AW
Did you read this C-5 for 100% sure?? Because inbound that day was C-5B 87-0038 from 60AMW (blue finstripe)!!! Did you saw the yellow finstripe from 436AW on it?? Maybe it is a unit change.
Your C-17 02-0184 437AW did not excist. Maybe you mean 01-0188 from 437AW.
When you are 100% sure that the UH-60's are from Shape, than it simple, because they have only 2 UH-60's over there.
Cheers, Eric

Hi,
With the changing of the delta hercs so soon and haven't seen the OK C-130s yet, we decided to go to Ramstein for a day of spotting. In the end, it became only a few hours of spotting........
