Hello, C-17s only confirmed as visually identified at Long Beach on 11sep15. See info with MAM and MAO.
Judging the used Qatari serial system gives clue on the other two that should be MAL and MAN. The serials given to all C-17s (all countries) are in sequence with the c/ns, so no odd given serials.

From that point there is only one possibility, that is that F279 (The Last One) is still the unsold example.

Thanks for the cliarification Hans. In sum, the customers for F272, F275 and F279 are still not confirmed yet, one of which is the unsold example.

Technically you are completely right, I think this will be the most logical order for the aircraft to be registered.
We will see when in the near future the other two Qatari aircraft will pop up at Long Beach.

Hi Hans,

The c/n to F number do not match up as you list them.
50280 was N270ZD/14-0001/F270
Then 50271/N271ZD/14-0002/F271 and so on to 50279/N279ZD/14-0010/F279

Hello John,
I have seen your remarks many times in different forums. But they are wrong to my knowledge.
It all started with the FAA website also mentioning this in first instance. Then it was taken over by many other websites.

There is no reason for Boeing to deviate from the original recording of c/ns versus the frame numbers. Why change that in comparison to the other 269 airframes.
So no logic at all in giving c/n 50280 to the first white tail and then 50271 to the second white tail etc.

i am still trying to reach Boeing for this item, but so far no luck.

Confirmed this evening by my 'Mark' one eyeball at Long Beach.

MAM is FMS 14-0005
MAP is FMS 14-0010
MAN was also seen hangared but I wasn't able to read the FMS.

Interesting,
Does this mean that Qatar might also have bought the last white tail (FMS 14-0010)?

MAL unknown, last noted at Kelly AFB (TX) in apr15 and jul15. No operator noted.
MAM/FMS14-0005 at LGB 11sep15 and confirmed again on 26sep15
MAN at LGB 26sep15
MAO/N278ZD at LGB 11sep15
MAP/FMS 14-0010 at LGB 26sep15

It might be that MAL is not being used by Qatar, so this one may be the last unsold example (50273/F272/FMS 14-0003/N272ZD).
Anybody seen N272ZD already at LGB again?

Hans,

To clarify, QEAF have bought 14-0005, 14-0006, 14-0009 and 14-0010.

14-0003 is the only C-17A that is still for sale. I'm sure somebody will snap it up soon enough. This airframe has been seen at Kelly AFB, TX a number of times this year wearing N272ZD.

Question, was MAL actually read off the airframe at Kelly? I don't think so. The April sighting of this airframe at Kelly was my sighting and it carried N272ZD. I never reported anything about it carrying MAL. Moreover, the July sighting (not mine) was also reported as N272ZD. Have people been 'assuming' that MAL must be the next one in sequence without actually reporting what they read off the tail of the aircraft.

I think you are correct.
MAL could have been right, as it is next in line in the Qatari serial system.
But you are completely correct as it has never been reported so far.

But who knows what will happen to the "lone" C-17 ;-))

So MAL was an assumption? Please everybody, can we only report what we actually read off an aircraft rather than guessing at what a tail number might be?

Many thanks

Noted at Long Beach Nov 6 were C-17's N275ZD and N279ZD both in Qatari AF colors.
