Re: F-35A Bomb truck or Beast mode
It looks beautiful! But there goes the extremely expensive stealth argument for this plane......

Re: F-35A Bomb truck or Beast mode
Not spoiling a photo topic but there are more features than just stealth the F-35 has..... something a lot of people tend to forget.
Only referring to a lack of stealth is based on lack of knowledge about the capabilities, scenarios, threats, available assets and so on.

Re: F-35A Bomb truck or Beast mode
An F-35 without stealth is like a Ferarri without engine, just my thoughts....
But is that all it can carry?
Rather small "Beast" then.
Nice pictures by the way.....

It also has 4 internal mounts which can be used for various types of ammunition.Alpha Kilo One wrote: But is that all it can carry?

It has 10 stations 6 extenally and 4 internally, i Guess that is more than a F16....

Indeed, one pilot and one engine too many.....This is what I call heavily loaded
But I'll buy you a nice bottle of whisky if you can show me a Klu pilot in let's say 2021 (operational ready)who rather goes to war with his F-16 than with the F-35...
I have never drunk milk, and I never will . . . .
Re: F-35A Bomb truck or Beast mode
Well perhaps more than you might suspect, because they will take part in the second wave after the F-35's took on the most dangerous mission of kicking down the door...Polecat wrote: But I'll buy you a nice bottle of whisky if you can show me a Klu pilot in let's say 2021 (operational ready)who rather goes to war with his F-16 than with the F-35...

Re: F-35A Bomb truck or Beast mode
It completely depends on the type of mission. Will they be flying attack (penetration) missions or CAS in Syria (with Russian fighters and S400 as defence) then no doubt the F35 is much better suited. If aided by other aircraft such as F22 and EW.Polecat wrote:But I'll buy you a nice bottle of whisky if you can show me a Klu pilot in let's say 2021 (operational ready)who rather goes to war with his F-16 than with the F-35...
But for domestic QRA missions a F16 is more than adequate. And for the type of mission we have been flying in Afghanistan (recce and CAS) without any heavy treat (apart from manpads) even an armed trainer would be okay.

Re: F-35A Bomb truck or Beast mode
The worst thing about the F-35 (apart from cost). It's a compromise.
It's not a fighter, it's not a bomber, it's not topnotch reconaissance.
And as said by many before: "compromise is always a failure"
We all need (apart from technology) a force multiplier.
One will not reach that with 35 of those F-35's.
Even Israeli defence is reconsidering strategy, because of cost and therefore "amount of planes"

Re: F-35A Bomb truck or Beast mode
No need to start the F-35 discussion all over....
It would not surprise me if, after the last F-35 has been delivered, airforce wil start requesting for an M-346 type trainer / lght attack plane to be additional for training and low thread missions. Say two squadrons or to be mixed with the F-35 in 5 squadtons...
