am Mittwoch, den 24. Januar 2018 laden das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) und die US-amerikanische Luft- und Raumfahrtbehörde NASA zu einem Pressetermin ein, bei dem die gemeinsame Flugversuchsmission ND-MAX/ECLIF II (Multidisciplinary Airborne Experiment/Emission and Climate Impact of Alternative Fuel) vorgestellt wird.
Erstmals führen beide Partner Forschungsflüge in Deutschland durch. Im Fokus stehen die Emissionen von alternativen Kraftstoffen und die Charakterisierung der Eiskristalle in Kondensstreifen, wobei exemplarisch Biokraftstoff zum Einsatz kommt.
Ab dem 14. Januar 2018 wird dafür das Forschungsflugzeug DC-8 der NASA, für drei Wochen nach Deutschland kommen und gemeinsam mit dem DLR-Forschungsflugzeug A320 ATRA (Advanced Technology Research Aircraft) fliegen. Die Flüge werden von der Ramstein Air Base in Rheinland-Pfalz aus starten.
Im Rahmen der Forschungsmission wird der DLR A320 ATRA mit verschiedenen Kraftstoffmischungen fliegen, während das vollinstrumentierte „Fliegende Labor“ DC-8 der NASA in sicherem Abstand folgt, um im Abgasstrahl Rußpartikel, Gasemissionen und Eiskristalle im Kondensstreifen zu messen.
Die Teilnehmer des Pressetermins bekommen einen Überblick über die Mission und werden die besondere Gelegenheit haben, die Flugvorbereitungen zu besichtigen und den Start der Forschungsflugzeuge zu verfolgen. Der Ablauf im Einzelnen:

8:00-8:30 Uhr Ankunft und Registrierung

8:30-9:30 Uhr Pressekonferenz

9:30-10:45 Uhr Besichtigung der Flugzeuge mit Fotogelegenheit 11:30 Uhr Beobachtung der Starts beider Flugzeuge

According to the DLR website "Wenn alles glatt läuft mit den letzten Vorbereitungen für die gemeinsame Forschungsflugkampagne, dann startet der erste gemeinsame Flugtest am 16. Januar 2018."

I´m Julian, 18, from Germany - approximately 40km North-West of ETAR!
My Hobbys are, of course, Photography (Most Aircrafts or Motorsports, but Landscape and Animals too), Mountainbiking and Modelling. Also i feed Flightradar with my own small RaspberryPi-Tower and Antenna.
It´s my first post here, so that was a small information about my person for you!

D-ATRA arrived today from Braunschweig at 14:32 Local.

24th will be for sure, as being the "Pressetermin", including both planes flying.
Looks like weekday missions only, and the plane probably being hangared afterwards
Hopefully departure information will be published, for Sunday the 4th of February.

If my information is still actual, the Airbase closes on Fridays (in the late evening) until Sundays 13:00 Local. Don´t know if they make exceptions for scientific missions.

First of all, welcome to the board! Ramstein is open on saturdays too, however there are mandatory quiet hours in effect ( during the weekend and holidays).
