Catalina PH-PBY emergency landing Lelystad
Today at around 1430 lt, Catalina PH-PBY/16-218 made an emergency landing at EHLE/Lelystad due to its nosewheel failing to deploy. Apparently no injuries. No news on damage though.

Filmed from an "elevated position":

Nicely done that high-drag landing!
"ik zie alleen wat vonken onderin, misschien dat jullie wat meer zien".
Well, no....
Touchdown from about 0.30 , nose finally begins to drop after 0.52 ....

.... perfect landing but..... this is an amphibious plane, isn't it?
This sounds too simple (or do I overlook something), but why didn't they make a waterlanding, to avoid any damage?![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

To avoid catastrophic damage as in losing the aircraft. Landing gear hatch was open.Gerard wrote:.... perfect landing but..... this is an amphibious plane, isn't it?![]()

one more question...why on concrete and not onto grass?Gerard wrote:Clear, thanks for the clarification.Arjenp wrote:To avoid catastrophic damage as in losing the aircraft. Landing gear hatch was open.Gerard wrote:.... perfect landing but..... this is an amphibious plane, isn't it?![]()

Re: Catalina PH-PBY emergency landing Lelystad
Probably because the runway is a plain, solid surface, as for the grass, there might be holes or bumps.

Rescue and firefighting services don't like wet grass either with their heavy trucks.

Not a bad idea... but then.... how do you fix the problem with the nose gear ??Gerard wrote:.... perfect landing but..... this is an amphibious plane, isn't it?![]()
