REQ: spotting at Ghedi
Hello, want to visit Ghedi air base next august.
Can anyone advice me if spotting from outside the fence is possible. For both numbers as photos. If so, how can I find these locations.
And are the preserved a/c also visible from the outside?
MTIA,
Peter Kesselaar

Hallo Peter
I have been there last week. You can drive arround the base and spot the numbers. When you stop or park they wil send you away and ask for your ID. When ther is no stop sign you can park your car and they let you take pictures in the air. They check your camera. They land at 31 and takeoff at 13. Be aware of the sun standpoint.
Happy hunting

Fridays might be slower ... But no such thing as best day, really.
Keep in mind, italians tend to fly irregular.
Happy hunting!

Do you suggest they only (plan to) be in the air southeast of the base, regardless of the direction of the wind?

Last week there was almost no wind. They taxi from the north ramp and north shelters to runway 13. There were no planes in the south east shelters. You can park your car north of the village and walk to the approach 31

I'll also stay at a campsite at Lake Garda during the next weeks, and off course also plan visits to Ghedi. In preparation, during the Geilenkirchen spottersday I was lucky to speek some North-Italian spotters, who advised me to go there only in the afternoon, due to the sun. In combination with the info in the previous posts, it now all makes sense: Tornados returning from a morning mission around noon will always have the sun straight behind them if they always land on rwy 31.

Yes the started flying arround 10. I made som great shots with 400mm in takeoff at the 31 side. Then you have to wait until 1300 at the other side.

So the Tornados stay quite low after take-off?
