Geilenkirchen open house 1-2 July

Post by thiel03 »

While walking around at the Florennes static yesterday, I noticed a sign next to the Nato awacs which mentioned briefly that there would be an open house next Saturday (July 2nd) at Geilenkirchen.

I seem to be unable to find any online information on this event. Does someone have more info on this?

Thanks and kind regards,

Paul

Message that was originally posted by "Vanlion" (so: NOT by me!) on behalf of the base commander of GKN in the Germany-thread cross-posted here for additional exposure:

Dear Aviation enthusiast,

This year the NATO E-3 Component will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a cultural festival. During that festival there will also be a static display of aircraft, including a mini Tigermeet fly-in. The cultural festival is limited open to the public. In order to give spotters and aviation enthusiasts the opportunity to take pictures of the fly-in of the participating aircraft, a spottersday will be held on the 30th of June 2017.
We tried to follow a similar concept as in 2012, but that was virtually impossible. A lot of changes occurred the last 5 years. Security wise, but also personnel wise. During the last reorganisation the Component downsized by 600 people. So in order to make this event work, we would be heavily relaying on your cooperation. We need you to organise in groups (no official groups as far as we are concerned) in order to take away the burden of registration and payment.

We will NOT take individual subscriptions.

By the end of March we will inform you on the registration process.
We will be offering two options. A basic option, which will cost 30Euro (250 spots), and a so called VIP option, which will cost 75Euro (200 spots). Exact content of each option will be announced when we inform you on the registration process.

Since it is not possible for us to invite all the groups individually, we encourage individuals to cross-post this message via forums/Facebookpages as much as possible.

On behalf of the Base Commander,
Organizing committee for the Spottersday.

Thanks for the update Frank. I am an English spotter that has already booked travel and accommodation for myself and my son, so would appreciate help in ensuring our spottersday application is included in any such group submission.

In a similar situation myself, clarification on what is required for these groups would definitely help, and of course would like help in ensuring my Dad and I end up in a submission group.

Best Regards

Guys, one small sidenote from me:

I am by now receiving questions by PM concerning my previous post here which I cannot possibly answer as actually, I don't have a clue myself; I did not write the message!

As I pointed out, the only thing I did was to copy the original message from the NATO-organisers of the Spottersday. It was originally posted in a different section of the messageboard (Spotting Germany), but I thought it would be more appropiate and get more coverage if cross-posted in the airshownews-section.

I suppose all we can do is wait for the clarification due by the end of the month, as mentioned in their original message. If and when I come across updates, I will again try to cross-post them in the airshownews, but please try not to PM me...

Sorry I could not be of more help, but I'm hoping all will turn out well for everyone (including myself) that's hoping to visit GKN!

I asked the organizing committee what they consider a group and its at least 10 persons. They do not need to enter the base together; it's only the signing in and payment process that they want to simplify (for them, not for us spotters). Now, I am trying to prepare a list of say 12-15 individuals who would like to sign in together in a few weeks time. Are there others who have the same idea or who might even have started a list already? Let's be prepared!
