Re: KLM praat/discussie/speculeer corner
Thanks for the info, as the BFK leaves for Mojave and the BFM and BFO are parked in spain, does anybody know the reason why the BFK is not parked in Spain? Or is the BFK not owned by KLM and returns to its owner? What is the cycle and hour count on the BFK?

Re: KLM praat/discussie/speculeer corner
All KLM 744 are owned.
BFK is sold for parts. BFM and BFO are used for parts by KLM itself and therefor still owned by KLM

PH-BFK is on its way to Shanghai atm. Will return tomorrow 1800 as KL896. I guess this will be the last commercial flight then?poereng wrote:BFK is planned to have it's last landing in AMS on Sunday 4 September, currently planned as KL888 (ex-HKG) flight, but ofcourse this still can be changed.
BFK will then be prepared at SPL East for it's final flight to Mojave, scheduled for Monday 26 September.
Kind regards, Roel

Re: KLM praat/discussie/speculeer corner
PH-BFK ended its working life yesterday after more than 25 years of service
total time : 129500 hours
cycles : 15417
Will be broken up in the USA, so add 2 cycles and maybe 12 hours to the total when it really dies.

Impressive numbers for the BFK. Which aircraft has the highest airframe time in the fleet?

The 747 with the most hours is the PH-BFD wich has 135879 flight hours.
PH-BFA only has 125410 hours.

BFA and BFB are full pax 747, which have lower daily usage than the 747 Combis in the KLM fleet.
BFD has more hours than BFC, because of a extremely long down time of BFC after an incident in Alaska in the early 90s.

At FL250 the aircraft flew into a normal looking cloud, which turned out to be a volcanic ash cloud (the result of an eruption of Mount Redoubt). Power was added to climb out of the cloud. About 10-15 seconds later all 4 engines failed and the standby electrical system failed. The crew were able to restart the engines after numerous attempts. The no. 1 and 2 engines were relit while descending through FL130 and the remaining 2 engines were relit at FL110. The aircraft landed safely at Anchorage, substantially damaged by the in-flight blasting by volcanic ash. The windshields were damaged, as were internal aircraft systems, avionics and electronics.
PROBABLE CAUSE: "Inadvertent encounter with volcanic ash cloud, which resulted in damage from foreign material (foreign object) and subsequent compressor stalling of all engines. A factor related to the accident was: the lack of available information about the ash cloud to all personnel involved."
