Leeuwarden RNLAF Open Days 10/11 June 2016 off topic

It is not yet confirmed if the F-35 will fly during the airshow.

Preparing a full display takes time, while a display that only involves a couple of flat passes in each direction may disappoint the audience and ruin the PR-moment.

The RNLAF studies its options very seriously, according to sources.

According to an article in Leeuwarden Courant of 26-4-2016, it is mentioned by a Dutch Lt. Col. that the Dutch F-35 will not fly during the Open days. Every flying hour here, is a less flying hour in the test program, he said.

My hope is that the static demonstration on Friday received the F-35 and you can morning landing, Saturday at Volkel you fly, it'd be the start of the news feed. Otherwise, it would be a static display

I have to correct myself, during a recent briefing it was mentioned that indeed 2 F-35's will cross the Atlantic. If the information about F-002 not allowed to fly outside the US is still correct than the second frame will be a non Dutch example (USAF?). If this one will also be present at the Open Days? Just wait and see..

Only 1, read somewhere that the other has special equipment onboard that does not allow the aircraft to fly outside the United States. In that same article F-001 was mentioned as the one that will come.

Both will leave Edwards on Saturday for Pax River, and on Monday will depart direct to Leeuwarden. If all works out, of course.
Answers will be questioned.....

Cheap. According to an ex Luftwaffe friend, each EF2000 flying hour costs them approx.95,000 Euros.

Don't want to keep this discussion alive too much but F-22 is $70,000/h (US definition 'cost of ownership in $ per flying hour'), F-16 is around $22,000/h and in 2013 Gen. Bogdan (JPO / F-35 Program Director) gave a $24,000/h expected cost/flying hour for the F-35A to Dutch Parliament, or '+10%' compared to the F-16. Still that makes F-35 a little more expensive and an EF2000 almost unbelievably expensive, but it could be that other costs are included in the total package for Germany. Anyway, only USAF F-35A from LF is cleared for aerial demonstrations, but hey a few burner passes....at Leeuwarden

It depends what is defined as the price per flying hour of a jet, just the immediate cost of fuel, maintenance, etc, or does the figure include the base(s) these jets are based at and all personnel on these base(s),the cost of other support infrastructure, and even pilot training prior to converting to the specified type of airplane?. It is possible to arrive at many different sums per flying hour, depending on what you include(or not) in your calculations.

quote from an interview i had two years ago with Col Wielhouwer (355thFW) at Davis-Monthan AFB.

'For every flown hour, there are about six to eight hours of preparation on the pilot's side. The cost for a flying hour is fairly low, something on the order of $6000 US Dollars per flying hour, and that includes the manhours spent fixing and launching the airplane, and the fuel for the mission. If we are talking costs per flying hour, it’s really inexpensive."
so it is only 6000 USD for an hour flight of an A-10....
