Merzifon, May 1990

Post by dick loh vervallen »

In May 1990 I was able to visit Merzifon air base through a contact in the Turkish Air Force. Home of the 5nci Ana Jet Us it was flying the Northrop F-5A and B in those days. 1. Ex Royal Norwegian Air Force F-5A 575/8-575 was still in its original colours. 2. F-5A 21249/5-249 was on alert with live AIM-9B Sidewinder missiles. 3. One of the pilots was so kind to take my camera up and photographed F-5A 21251/5-251. 4. F-5B 21283/5-283 during an engine change was ex Taiwanese Air Force. 5. 14897/5-897 was also DART equiped. 6. F-5A 14904/5-904.

1. CL.13 Sabre as gate guard. 2. T-33A 16573/5-573 belonged to the base flight. 3. T-33A 14155/5-155. 4. Two SAR UH-1H Hueys were on duty. 5. Visiting C-47 was 6073/12-073. 6. I have no idea why 7nci AJU T-33A 54961/7-961 was at Merzifon.

 8) To think that I thought F-5's were boring, when the KLu still operated them from Eindhoven. Sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone ;-)

Super report!!

Super Dick, show us more of your nice collection slides, nice to see the RONAF 575 again in these colours... I checked and found out last time I saw it was at Ramstein, landing shot 4-6-75, let's say 40 years back, I can't believe it...
