At Guarulhos we stayed in Matiz Hotel, an ideal hotel if you want to spend the night near this airport. Ask for a room on the highest floor with room 1531 being the one you really want (and we had it). If you're lucky and they are coming in over the hotel you can stay in your room and read off all arrivals without exiting the room. For departures, just open the door of your room and you are facing the treshold of both runways with the entire airport in full view. If you're not lucky the planes will come towards you and you have to read them off when they clear the runway after arrival or under the wing in case they take off.
