Re: Schiphol 11-11-2014, KLMD-11 farewell
Hello all,
I travelled to Amsterdam to fly and witness my favouite aircraft of all time, the MD-11! We departed at 13:00 as KLM 9897 onboard PH-KCD also known as Florence Nightingale. The one hour flight consisted of a low level tour around the Netherlands which was fantastic, we flow over numerous city's and towns at no less than 2,000 feet! Sadly I was allocated seat 29B which wasn't a window seat but as the aircraft boarded seat 29A was still not taken and in the end the passenger didn't turn up! So I had a window seat for the whole flight. Here is an image of the my view:

Once we landed, we were allowed to tour KCD and the other MD-11 parked next to us, PH-KCB. Here is an image after leaving the aircraft:

More photos to come and I will be producing a report for Global Aviation Resource so keep a look out!

Very nice pictures so far! I'm curious if there are any pictures of the first flight. Perhaps not the best light, but since I was on this one I would love to see some photos of this one as well

Re: Schiphol 11-11-2014, KLMD-11 farewell
1) 9h15 - a beautiful morning
2) somewhat murky weather during the first departure on 18C.....
3) the sun came back minutes before arrival on 18C
4) the 2nd flight took off on 18L in much better weather
5)
6) landing on 18R
7) typical MD-11 pose with lots of smoke on touchdown
8 ) take off on 24 for its last flight with passengers before heading to the scrap man
9) its very last landing at Schiphol. Approach on 27, turning to 24
10) the very last KLM MD-11 landing at Schiphol (sorry for the bad quality....)
11) the fire department gave a nice water salute after arrival
12)
13) almost there...
14)
15)
16)
17) Bye Bye to the Douglas history with the KLM, the only airline to have flown all Douglas commercial types
Big thanks goes out to the KLM for organizing a worthy farewell for an iconic airliner
regards,
Koen

I'm not quite sure which was more exciting... being ON BOARD this one or seeing this image of it!! (don't recall seeing your brandname of the lift increasing devices on my side of the wing though....)
Way to go, Nusty!!!

Anyone for a picture when the MD-11 was taxi out on taxiway Sierra-Quebec for her first farewell flight over the A-4 bridge
or the corner/parkingplace Pelikaanweg ? Many photographers out there on the corner when we taxi out.

Imaging that this will not happen again. 11-11-14: KLM MD-11 for the very last time descending towards runway 24
in the best possible setting you only dream off as a photographer. The sky was bleeding a bit as well.
