Re: Obama to Visit Brussel 26 March 2014
Some people say that Obama will come to Belgium by Marine One.
Is it 100% sure he will come by Air Force One?

Well Tibo,
You can never be 100% sure of course. To be honest I would like that scenario more because that would mean he travels to BRU with his helo's and maybe VC-25 would fly in the day after (in daylight iso darkness) but that scenario doesn't seems so very possibly ... it might but chances are rather small I guess.
Also, if that would be the plan, then the 2 VH-3's at Melsbroek would be useless because he would already have flewn in 2 helo's from AMS in that case, so I don't really think so and I do expect him to arrive on AF1 at Brussels, but we'll see, we all gonna have to take a guess, that's as simple as it gets.

I agree with you, Yannick.
It seems more and more that he will come by AF1 to Brussels.
No helicopter landing on Beauvechain Air Base as they told two times in Belgian newspapers...
Also no activities at EBBE(just some renovation of runway 22R(painting)) so it was some pure media sensation in my opinion.
Any good estimation of the time of landing already or departure at EHAM?
What runway will be used at EBMB/EBBR?
Where are you guys going to stand?
The wind will blow from SE / S and will turn to N / NE by night.

Re: Obama to Visit Brussel 26 March 2014
Hi Tibo
I'm afraid NO one will be able to answer your questions, I wish we could.
No we don't know when AF1 will be at Brussels, not even 'a rough estimate' .. because it all depends on how long the bilateral meetings after the end of NSS will take.
Obama will meet with 3 or 4 more world leaders (separatly) so it might take a while .... I do begin to fear it will be in darkness (just as I expect for departure Wednesday) so it's going to be a big gamble but what else would I be doing tomorrow evening at home so I'll be there ... but I'm afraid pics will not be really much ...
Stand is also not known, I heard various things (and honestly we'll just have to wait and see at the moment itself...). I've heard rumours about Abelag, others say Melsbroek, even others say he would be parked at the Sattelite (Apron 3) .... so there is really no way saying where it WILL be this moment.
Although I do believe in the apron 3 story, in 2005 it was parked there as well, and it's the most isolated part of Brussels airport (apart from Melsbroek) so it can easily be well-secured there ...
Runway use, you just can't tell ... Brussels ATC is known for letting planes land with slight tailwind so North or Eastwinds if only 'light or moderate' they can still use the 25's and if it's the 01 for arrival, who's to say AF1 wont land on the 07R....? Well, that will partly depend on the stand he will choose, but I'm afraid my friend I cannot tell you that...
I do have friends 'on site' at AMS tomorrow so they can tell me when it departed, providing it is during the hours they are spotting there, if it's later in the evening or in darkness they are probably no more on the spot so ... it will depend.

Re: Obama to Visit Brussel 26 March 2014
Thanks for the answer, Yannick!
Do you know if it's going to be possible to spot a the regular spotting places tomorrow?
Where are you going to stand?
I know it depends on the 'guess' on which runway Obama will land.
Hopefully we will receive more info tomorrow!
Regards,
TiboJ

Normally the usual spots shouldn't be a problem (except for car parking top roof maybe ... they might be 'closed'), at least providing you do not access private property, do not disturb people with your obvious presence or noise, do not park where is not allowed or create a dangerous traffic situation, etc etc ..; and CERTAINLY do not go ON the cemitary of Steenokkerzeel (which no-one with some brains in his head should actually do because that's disrespectfull) because police will be keeping an eye on you there.
For the rest I can only say .... depends on the runway, if 01 then along the 01 west-side, if 25's at Steenokkerzeel (for 25R) or at 25L treshold if 25L... usually I'd be where many other spotters are, unless there is a last minute runway chance. I will keep my ear on the radio anyway ...
Don't count in getting information about arrival, it's higly unlikely and IF you get info, it's not sure that is correct info so ... don't count on it we'll have to sit it out and wait ...

Re: Obama to Visit Brussel 26 March 2014
Is there any info on when Obama will depart to, and arrive from Kortrijk? And is it expected that he will fly from Brussels Airport, or from a landing zone closer to his hotel?
