Hi all
Thinking of coming over for this from Manchester. Can anybody confirm if AMS will be used for all flights or will some use Rotterdam all this is A little closer to the Hague.
Also I'm guessing most stuff would arrive on the sunday due to the meeting starting on the monday.
Thx

Else918: so far there is nothing known about usage of Rotterdam airport. Schiphol seems to be the preferred airport. Also no information on arrival days. Even the visitors are unknown. It is likely Obama will visit. Just be patient. I am pretty sure these will be interesting days.

As one of the main motorways (A4) in the Netherlands will be closed off completely between Schiphol and The Hague for transport of the participants of this meeting, according to the press, and nothing has been said about a similar thing between Rotterdam and The Hague, I wouldn't expect much summit related traffic at EHRD

I read somewhere that one lane would be closed? It seems highly unlikely to me that the entire A4 will be closed!aviodromefriend wrote:As one of the main motorways (A4) in the Netherlands will be closed off completely between Schiphol and The Hague for transport of the participants of this meeting, according to the press, and nothing has been said about a similar thing between Rotterdam and The Hague, I wouldn't expect much summit related traffic at EHRD

At this moment the reports indicate two lanes, at least, to be used however if a road formation leaves Schiphol it happened before that more lanes are 'ceased for the moment' if needed.Paul van der Linden wrote:I read somewhere that one lane would be closed? Re: EHAM 24-25 March 2014 Nuclear Security summit
From what I have read, it is the complete A4.
This would also be more in line with what the US originally wanted to happen the last time a serving president visited the Netherlands. There were also concerns if you only closed a few lanes, it would be impossible to drive the presidential car due to that vehicle's poor manouverability. Also the habit of Dutch cardrivers to dis-obey temporary closed lanes had lead to the decision to close the A4 completely.

Factual info I received: it has been decided 18R/36L will be the runway used for parking, and it will be taken out of use one week before the summit. 40 to 50 aircraft are expected to be parked there.
Schiphol's total capacity will be reduced during the summit due to airspace closure affecting traffic flow.

Regarding a press conference this morning in The Netherlands: the delegations come in on Sunday (23 March 2014) and Monday morning (24 March 2014).

On page three, verbatim: "Voor vliegtuigspotters heeft hij minder goed nieuws. De spottersplekken bij Schiphol gaan tijdens de conferentie waarschijnlijk dicht."GerardL wrote:Algemeen Dagblad is reporting that all spottersplaces wil closed.
"De A4 tussen Schiphol en Den Haag zal vooral in de ochtend van maandag 24 maart nog drukker zijn dan normaal.
Tientallen regeringsleiders komen die ochtend aan en worden onder politiebegeleiding naar Den Haag gebracht."

Re: EHAM 24-25 March 2014 Nuclear Security summit
From reliable sources, some more info about the current state of plans.
Runway 18R/36L will be out of use for normal operations from approx. 2 weeks before the event to 4 weeks after it. Has to do with preparations for the massive aircraft parking there, reverting those measures afterwards and combined maintenance.
Road traffic restrictions may be even worse than we feared: high possibility of both A5 and N205 - Driemerenweg being completely closed during the event. Extrapolating that, it will include parts of the N232 - Schipholweg as well.
For now, it really seems the best options for enthusiasts will be at Schiphol-Centre if that can still be reached (public transport?), apart from very long lenses in very good weather if we are lucky.
