Part of the military exercise "Urban Stoter" called for an assault on the TV-tower in Hoogersmilde, because that was supposed to have be taken over by terrorists.
On the 12th of november 2013 the weather was bad with a very low cloudbase.
That low cloudbase combined with the TV-tower and its wires (over 300m high) close by caused the soldiers to arrive by truck.
On the 13th the weather was perfect and I was able to find a good spot.
The next pictures were of that day (more pictures can be seen at my Flickr Photostream):
01 CH-47F D-891 brings in the first load of soldiers (Check the vortices caused by the rotorblades):
02
03 ... stay low when exiting:
04 CH-47D D-661 just landed:
05 Sneaky overflyer (according SBS this was RC-135U Combat Sent 64-14847/OF):
06 Nice turns:

08 The first underslung load, a MB (Mercedes-Benz 290GD):
09 The second, with a LSV (Lohr Véhicule Légère Aeromobile). Check out the vortices!:
10 The deer didn't like the helicopternoise and shooting at all:

13 "Can you get any lower? I can't reach the release!":

16 The third flight:
17 After the Chinooks had left, a LSV drove straight over the field towards the other side, that is... until they encountered a ditch across the field. The brakelights are still on!:
18 From this angle you can't see the ditch at all, so it's not really surprising they crashed:

20 Transferring the cargo to the MB, because this one is slightly broken...:

Those deer came VRR from Bückeburg (Visual Running Rules). Apparantly, one of them had to make an extra fuelstop somewhere in between.
Check the Bückeburg photo topic in this forum.
