United Arab Emirates (UAE) national carrier Etihad Airways has further deepened its already extensive operational and marketing partnership with European carrier’s Air France and KLM but introducing a new cargo dimension to the arrangement, having previously mainly focused on the passenger market. Alongside a significant codeshare arrangement and a lease agreement and the wet leasing of an Air France A340-300 to operate one of the UAE carrier’s two daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Paris CDG, Etihad has now agreed to lease a Boeing 747-400ERF from KLM’s Martinair Cargo operation.

The aircraft, with a payload capacity of 124 tonnes, will be used by Etihad Cargo to link the two cargo hubs of Abu Dhabi and Amsterdam, and to increase capacity to Frankfurt, Hong Kong and Dhaka. The Boeing 747-400ERF delivery and commencement of operations are scheduled for late March, taking Etihad Cargo’s freighter fleet to seven aircraft: it already operates two Boeing B777F, one Boeing 747-400F, two Airbus A330-200F and one Airbus A300-600F. Etihad Cargo has an additional three freighters scheduled for delivery in 2013 and 2014: one Boeing B777F and two Airbus A330-200Fs.

“Extending our cooperation agreement with Air France-KLM to cargo operations is an extraordinary opportunity and we look forward to leveraging our combined expertise and freighter fleets to grow cargo operations over our respective hubs,” said Kevin Knight, Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, Etihad Airways.

“This agreement forms an excellent basis for a fruitful and far-reaching partnership between Air France-KLM and Etihad Airways into cargo. More initiatives are to be developed to enhance cargo cooperation aiming to offer our customers a wide-ranging and high quality service,” added Camiel Eurlings, Managing Director, KLM.

Boeing 777 krijgt wifi antenne
Last edited: 08 March 2013 - 10:57:00

Herewith an example of the impact of EMIRATES & ETIHAD on KLM.

Though KLM does not operate to Dublin, it was the largest carrier of non-European transfer traffic originating from Dublin through its long-haul (only) codeshare with EI. On the arrival of Emirates & Etihad in Dublin KLM has lost marketshare.

Quote:

''Prior to the recent arrival of the big Gulf carriers, KLM dominated the transfer Dublin market in 2007 with a 13.8 per cent share of the transfer demand, followed by British Airways (11.9 per cent) and Qantas (11.0 per cent). Now, it is UAE carriers Etihad Airways and Emirates Airline that dominate the market with 26.0 per cent and 24.9 per cent shares, respectively.

Qantas remains a key operator in the market with 8.1 per cent but previous market leaders, Europe’s flag carriers KLM and BA, have seen their shares slip to just 6.2 per cent and 4.8 per cent, but this still represents around 34,000 and 26,000 passengers a year, respectively.''

KLM's reservation system is saying the 603 is being operated by 74M most of those flights. In september I find MD11 on the 603

Vlootontwikkeling AF/KLM - 11 april 2013:

Air France-KLM said it is in talks with Airbus about postponing deliveries of the next A380s it has on order by several months as it tries to rein in spending and reduce debt.

The Franco-Dutch carrier operates a fleet of eight A380s, after taking delivery of two more last year, and has a further four on order.

"Discussions are still in progress with Airbus to define new dates regarding deliveries of the next A380s still on order," Air France-KLM said in its latest annual registration document.

Air France-KLM is seeking to return to profit and cut debt by EUR€2 billion (USD$2.6 billion) by the end of 2014 after being battered by high fuel costs, a worsening cargo business and tough competition from Gulf and low-cost carriers.

The carrier said in its registration document that it had cancelled an option "which could no longer be extended" to buy an A380 last year and again postponed the delivery of one Boeing 777-300ER by a year.

The airline said it had also agreed with the plane makers to delay deliveries of three Airbus A320s and one Boeing 777-300.

An Air France-KLM spokeswoman said the airline was finalising talks with Airbus to delay delivery of its ninth A380 until September this year from an unspecified date and its 10th until April 2014 from 2013.

The other two, due in 2014, would come at an unspecified later date, she said.

Airbus has said it is aiming to sell around 30 A380s this year. It said in January that it expected to produce 25 A380s in 2013, and it delivered four in the first quarter.

Air France-KLM added that discussions were still ongoing with Airbus and engine supplier Rolls-Royce to finalise an order for Airbus A350s.

The carrier placed the provisional USD$7 billion order for 25 wide-bodied A350-900 passenger jets in September 2011 at the same time as ordering 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, a deal which has since been confirmed.
