Gentleman,
I'm planning a trip to the North part of Italy. I probably will stay in the area between Trento & Bolzano (or Venice).
Who knows how the spotting possiblities are at Istrana (amx), Ghedi (tornado's), Rivolto (frecce & ..?). Beside Aviano
I have no idear if there is something intresting in this area to see (photograph)? I have seen all scramble airfield guides already, hopefully someone can give me some good advice concerning spotting (around these bases) and what to expect?
I will be there the second week of september 2012 after Italy i will visit the area of Zeltweg for another week.
All tips about activities, locations wrecks and Relics are welcome.
(by the way i do have EMOOS 2011).
Thanks in advance.
Ralph

Thanks for the tip. But I especially would like to know how the Italians are flying those days. I have never been in Italy thats why.
I also have no clue what is standing at Rivolto beside the frecce tricolori?
Greetings Ralph

A hole day or a whole day :wink
Istrana might be busy, with the temp closure of Amendola due to runway works. Do not know if it is still applicable in September

Rivolto is good if you like W&R, there are a lot off them on this base!
Bolzano, you can check out the Carabinieri choppers, Army is also based there but last year I didn't saw any of those choppers outside.
Ghedi can if you stay some distance from the fence.
W&R around Verona area a lot...
gr,
Erik

Hi Ralph,
for the W&R if you send me your e-mail i will send you some scans from a publication about the italian's W&R; only in italian, sorry.
It is impossible to have info's about the daily movements an the italian bases, in most cases is only a matter of lucky Pay attention to the Carabinieri, less to the Police, and hide your camera.
Ghedi : daily movements but you have to stay far from the fence, for more info's contact HERE.
Verona-Villafranca : only civil
Istrana : at the middle of August the planes will return from Afganisthan and in september probably movements after the refurbishing of the machines.
Rivolto : only Frecce and very difficult to shot from outside because of the fence of a wine estate; try to contact the Frecce to ask for some permission, few hopes of a positive answer......
Aviano : not all days but a lot of movements both of the resident 31st FW and transports from abroad; on Thusday usually one or two C-130J fron Ramstein. If you catch the right day 12 to 24 different F-16 in flight.
