Well I'll try to explain what "the problem" is of aircraft look like playing hide and seek at SBS/Airnav boxes (or at our PC screens, e.g. FR24)
Yes, visible as ZD953 is Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast equipped (as part of its Certificate of Military Registration) and still using ICAO 24-bit address "Mode S (Selective) hex-code" 43C1C4 !
But NOT visible as the coupled database, in this case of FR24, isn't up to date.... An SBS/AirNav box is only a receiver of a transmitterresponder signal (simply said: one way signaltraffic from the transponder to the box) and can't interrogate and respond like a Secondary Surveillance Radar system (that has, simply said: 2-way "ask and answer" signaltraffic between SSR and ransponder).
So an SBS/AirNav box needs a transponder with a coupled GPS (of course) AND a database of ICAO 24-bit adresses as reference. The box can't place the "blip" without GPS on your screen (as I said before, can't interrogate). When the SBS/AirnNav box "knows" to place the "blip" (with the help of GPS) on your screen it's just a peace of cake to "check" its coupled database immediately and able to translate the received data signal part of the transponder 's unique ICAO 24-bit address and "the messagetag" appears at your box (or PC) screen
Another issue: when flightcrew is entering wrong flight identity into their Mode S transponder it leads to "misscommunication" between Mode S / SSR (and the possibility of problems when ATC/ACC/UAC's receiving wrong radar info and can disturb the preplanned guidance, planning of a radar controlled area/airway and/of (Upper) Airspace and another e.g.: a (digital)communication problem with the "wrong aircraft" ...)
